CHIPARAMBA GREAT EAGLES & FOOTBALL ACADEMY

The football academy, which exclusively focuses on youth, organize practice for about 120 children every day, 5 to 6 days a week. The age categories 10, 12 and 14 year olds continuously organize games/tournaments for kids of their age. The 16 year olds play in local series in Lusaka. When games and football cups take place, food and transportation is provided by the academy.

The kids get education about HIV/AIDS from us and other organizations such as the Bill Gates supported Grassroot Soccer. Every month the coaches visit different compounds where they organize tournaments and at the same time take the opportunity to inform about HIV/AIDS.

Since the year 2000 the academy also arranges Fair Play To Fight AIDS, a yearly reoccurring football tournament that's held at around the time for World AIDS Day. Youth teams from all 9 regions of Zambia are invited to play football during three days, while at the same time being informed about HIV/AIDS. The academy pays for transports, housing, three meals a day and any other costs that might occur. During these three days all coaches from the participating teams also get coach training.

Since 2003 the academy has an agreement with Tucks Academy ( Pretoria University – one of the worlds largest sport universities) where talented football players can receive scholarships. To this day six players from the academy have gotten scholarships to attend Tucks Academy. In addition to this, five players have visited Sweden and Ögryte IS in Gothenburg to play and practice with young Swedish players. Today, four of these have contracts with premium clubs and three live in their own apartments in Gothenburg. A number of other players, approximately 20, managed to make a living out of playing football in Zambia and South Africa. To this day about 400 youths have passed through the academy and become role models for other youth and children.

To further develop youth, the academy started to collaborate with The Chiparamba Foundation that will in the near future provide with schooling and other education for the players and their siblings. With the help of The Chiparamba Foundation in collaboration with Grassroot Soccer, work will continue to give more and more children the opportunity to fight the virus that threatens to wipe out a whole continent.
