HISTORY
During Easter in 2004, Klas Björkhagen travelled to Lusaka to find a charity project to collect money for, using his 50th birthday as a fundraiser. The thought was to tell all his friends to donate money to this charity project instead of giving him presents which he felt he didn’t need or want anyway.
For one week, Klas went around in Lusaka from dawn to dusk, interviewing teachers, street kids, gravediggers, families that had been shattered due to HIV/AIDS and children of the Chiparamba Great Eagles. The shocking experience, especially witnessing the terrible conditions under which the children in Lusaka live, gave birth to the idea of starting a foundation of his own.
In September the very same year, that dream came true as the foundation took its form. The Chiparamba Foundation was founded around the time of Klas’ birthday party where $24.500 was collected.
