CHIPA SISTERS & BROTHERS
We want to support the most vulnerable players in Chiparamba and their sisters with school- fees, books and uniforms. The project is labeled “Chipa sisters & brothers”. We offer companies and private persons the opportunity to donate $32/month to different sibling pairs. $32 is enough to provide 2 children with school tuitions for one month. The project was launched in the beginning of 2006 and today we have 50 sponsors that supports 100 children. The Chiparamba Foundation it self supports another 26 children with school tuitions and other needs.
The background to this initiative is that 1/3 of all the children in Zambia, between the ages of 15 and 24, never receives any formal education. Only 8 percent graduated primary school (7 years). Orphaned children are the most vulnerable and the ones most likely to drop out of school. Education is of course extremely important for the future development of Zambia. Statistics now tell of a future where most of the population can't even count, read or write.
There's also a shortage of resources to maintain and renovate the schools that are very worn down. The lack of teachers is also in a state of emergency since there's money to pay for salaries. There's no free schooling in Zambia. The monthly fee to attend school is about $16/month. The average salary in Zambia is about $38 a month and it is not unusual for families to have 5 to 10 children. To make those ends meet is of course totally impossible without help.
